About Kualanamu International Airport

Company History

Kualanamu International Airport, located near the city of Medan in North Sumatra, Indonesia, was officially opened on 25 July 2013 to replace the former Polonia International Airport due to the increasing demand for air travel and the limitations of Polonia International Airport.

Since its inauguration, Kualanamu International Airport has played an important role in connecting Medan with both domestic and international destinations. It has quickly emerged as one of the busiest airports in Indonesia, serving as a major hub for both business and leisure travel. The airport’s strategic location in North Sumatra has contributed significantly to regional economic growth, attracting investment and promoting tourism.

Kualanamu International Airport is currently operated by PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi. PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi is a Joint Venture Company (JVCo) between PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia and GMR Airports Netherlands B.V., established as a continuation of the Strategic Partnership process for Kualanamu International Airport. The partnership aims to manage, operate, and further develop Kualanamu International Airport. Under this agreement, PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi will be responsible for the operation of Kualanamu International Airport for the next 25 years.

One of the main objectives of Kualanamu International Airport is to establish itself as an important hub airport, facilitating greater connectivity and serving as the western international gateway to Indonesia. The airport’s strategic location and well-developed infrastructure make it an important center for travelers, both domestic and international. Modern facilities and a strong commitment to service quality make it a preferred choice for passengers, contributing to its position as a leading aviation hub in the region.
