Kualanamu International Airport, located near Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Kualanamu International Airport was officially opened on 25 July 2013 replacing the previous Polonia International Airport due to increasing demand for air travel and limitations of Polonia airport
Since its inauguration, Kualanamu International Airport has played an important role in connecting Medan with domestic and international destinations. It has quickly emerged as one of Indonesia's busiest airports, serving as a major hub for business and leisure travel. In December 2021, Angkasa Pura II, a state-owned airport operator in Indonesia, entered into a strategic partnership with GMR Airports Netherlands B.V. through Angkasa Pura Aviation for the development of Kualanamu International Airport. Angkasa Pura Aviasi completed all the formalities required for the airport takeover and began operations in July 2022. Based on the agreement, Angkasa Pura Aviasi will be responsible for airport operations at Kualanamu International Airport for the next 25 years.
